SOIL is a project of personal curiosity and drive to understand the ecosystem within which we are a part of. I want people to be able to connect with the heart of life, the beginnings of most food growth and the substance that can dramatically reduce climate change. Based on data from the UK Centre of Ecology & Hydrology, the online visualisation aims at breaking down complex data into a digestible format, that can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection and a device. The experience allows one to immerse themselves inside the particle structure, which represents the quantities of different nutrients found within the selected location data set. Each nutrient is also represented by its own sound, which is constantly changing and evolving. By clicking on the particle, you can learn more about it and by sliding the ‘year’ slider, you can travel back in time to see the difference.
